In 1967, the final of the European Cup I was also organized in Lisbon. The match was played on May 24, 2014 at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon. The competition was officiated by Szymon Marciniak. That chance was lost due to a missed penalty kick in stoppage time of the last game. The match took place at the Estádio Nacional, Portugal's national football stadium. The stadium, which has been home to Benfica since 2003, was also used in 2004 as the setting for the European Championship final between Portugal and Greece. Benfica's former stadium, also called Estádio da Luz, was used twice to play European finals. In 2020, the club fell one point short of playing safely in the Segunda División. In the 2020/2021 season, Deportivo fell one (goal) point short to reach the promotion phase and would therefore not play at the second level in the 2021/2022 season. In the 1949/1950 season it finished second one point behind Atlético. In seasons 92/93 and 94/95 it finished 4 points behind the champion. The chance that the major football countries will miss the tournament will become smaller, the large group of countries behind the top have a better chance of qualifying and according to UEFA, it would give a quality boost to the tournament if countries such as Denmark, Scotland and England did structurally qualify for the European Championship.
Hispània FC won the first edition of this tournament with Samuel Alfredo Morris as captain. David Beckham curled a free kick into the penalty area, where captain Carlos Gamarra headed in his own goal under pressure from Peter Crouch and Michael Owen. Aymeric Laporte jumped higher than Moussa Sissoko on a De Bruyne free kick and his header couldn't be cleared off the line by Højbjerg. The Netherlands won eight and lost two of its previous fourteen World Cup matches against teams affiliated with CONMEBOL. Two years later it defeated Valencia in the final and in 2002 the Madrilenians won their ninth and last European Cup for the time being after a 2-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen. The first time, in 2000, there were also two Spanish clubs in the final with Real Madrid and Valencia. There was also a clear difference in history between the two finalists. Negotiations between different countries with the aim of removing trade barriers or establishing a free trade zone have a long history, particularly in the context of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Mexico was won 3-2 by a converted penalty kick from Raymond Kopa just before the end, but because Yugoslavia and Brazil played a draw, France was eliminated. France secured the World title once.
